file system-like trees
unix directories all have their toplevel-directory, the so called
root directory which is denoted as "/" (top of the trees)
another place in the filesystem called root-directory is the homedirectory of root, the system administrator. on many systems it is /root, but on some others it is the filesystem root (/) as well.
