created for the interdisciplinary group exhibition project "Kolumbarium" Das Archiv als Weltgarten, gallery PARKHAUS, Düsseldorf
the project
The participants of the interdisciplinary project seminar "porcelain and video" executed by Ute Janssen, Ingrid Jäger, Prof. Sörensen/ School of Fine Arts Hamburg got invited to exhibit in the gallery PARKHAUS Düsseldorf im Malkastenpark.
The gallery space is affiliated to a historical park, Malkastenpark Düsseldorf and an old artists association.
Artists have been developing works for the indoor and outdoor space for many years.
In order to develop a concept as a group for our exhibition we explored the park and the gallery together with the landscape architect Prof. Sörensen and two of her students.
Due to the historical and slightly morbid character of the space we decided to symbolically bury and at the same time pay homage to artists, their positions and exhibitions in this space by making them "urns" and "memorials".
As part of the preparation of the project we visited a crematory and an undertaker.
While each of us independently started to create "urns" for artists of their interest (in my case: video sculpture, object with cigarette stubs and photo-urn on gardenchair), we developed the installation "Urnenhain" (transl. urn-grove) for the park as a group.
At this I was involved in the theoretical aspect of the process like everyone else in the group and in manufacturing the urns of cast porcelain.
