4 - shutting DOWN (NOT rebooting)

as described in the next step, it is REQUIRED NOT TO RESTART the machine.
there is some hardware in the computer which is called PRAM, short for parameter ram that holds some information about some hardware settings like screen resolution, sound volume etc. even when the machine is turned off.
it is quite important to do a shutdown (power-down) of the machine because the following operation will only work thoroughly correct when initiated from a formerly turned-off mac. it is commonly called zapping the PRAM.
